FAQ

Q: Which registry keys does 7+ Taskbar Tweaker modify? I don’t need extra processes in my system.
A: The only registry keys the tweaker modifies are its own settings. There are no registry keys for the options it provides. The tweaker does that by injecting a DLL to explorer, hooking/subclassing/some other methods of the dark side.
As for extra processes, the tweaker is a native program, and is very lightweight. It shouldn’t slow down your system, and uses an extremely small amount of memory. Also, you can hide the tray icon if you want.

In case you want to remove the tweaker’s settings from the registry, look for them here:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\7 Taskbar Tweaker
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run (“7 Taskbar Tweaker” value)

P.S. if you’re a programmer, you might want to take a look at the 7+ Taskbar Tweaking Library.

Q: My antivirus complains about 7+ Taskbar Tweaker.
A: It’s a false positive. I guarantee that the tweaker binaries (and any other files on this site, unless specifically noted) are 100% clean.
Also remember that the tweaker injects into explorer and modifies its memory, which is indeed suspicious.

Q: Can I Group/Combine/Label only some of the items on the taskbar?
A: Yes, use Taskbar Inspector.

Q: Can I use 7+ Taskbar Tweaker in a commercial environment?
A: Yes, feel free to use it wherever you want.

Q: Where is the portable version?
A: When installing the tweaker, choose the Portable type of install, as shown on the image below.
The portable version will be extracted to the selected folder.

7tt-portable-small

Note: If the tweaker is already installed on your computer, the option won’t be visible. You can launch the setup with the /portable command line switch to force a portable installation.

Q: I want to report a bug/suggest a feature! What is the best way to do it?
A: Post it on the UserEcho page.

Q: I want to translate 7+ Taskbar Tweaker to my language.
A: The archive below contains the files needed to be translated.
Please read readme.txt before proceeding.

Hi, i have problem. DLL can not be loaded: https://db.tt/TBUVvoaN

I already de installed and installed again. What can be teh problem? I use the latest 4.4.3

  2. Darkwing says:

Thank you for the debug Version. I installed it and it gave teh same error. The Log is a binary file. I put it here:
    https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/1490505/_DEBUG.LOG

    • RaMMicHaeL says:

7+ Taskbar Tweaker tries to create the following registry key:
      HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\7 Taskbar Tweaker\Labeling

But gets an “access denied” error.
I don’t know why that happens.
Maybe running the tweaker as administrator will solve this.

  3. Darkwing says:

Did not help. anyway. I deinstalled the programm and then i deleted the complete Key ‘HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\7 Taskbar Tweaker’ in the registry. Then installed it new and it worked!

No Idea what was wrong, but i am glad to have this great tool back.

Thank you very much for your attention!

  4. Thank for this amazing little utility. Would you please consider adding ‘window’ placement and size feature? Something similar to http://www.southbaypc.com/autosizer/

    • Stamimail says:

RaMMicHaeL, Are you going to develop what kind of Hotkey program 🙂
      I’m afraid it’s too much. Isn’t it?

      • RaMMicHaeL says:

Daniel wrote about position/size management functionality. What hotkeys have to do with it?
Anyway, no, such app is no planned. Surely it has nothing to do with 7TT as it’s not really related to the taskbar.

        • Stamimail says:

I thought it is a classic feature for Hotkey app like HotkeyP
          http://img.gawkerassets.com/img/18ixdjem4jecnjpg/k-bigpic.jpg

As commands could be : Window Size / Position
And Parameters could be numbers specify: Length-Width / Top-Left corner.

I didn’t think of any other way to implement this in 7TT.

I remember we had discussed once to make Taskbar Inspector a kind of Windows Manager (adding to TI context menu & Advanced Options actions like: Always on Top, Close, Minimize to tray, Hide… applying on: 1 window | 1 app | 1 group | all windows) but I think you didn’t want to take 7+TT to this direction of functionality.

  5. Oleg says:

    Dear RaMMicHaeL,
Is it possible for you to make a patcher for windows files(explorer.exe) to insert selected options in 7+TT once and for all?
Can you make this kind of patch? , or at least deleting with patch only group option in the explorer?

  6. Oleg says:

    1. I don’t like extra process in the RAM and taskmanager.
    2. It runs via autorun, i would prefer “service”.
    3. If i boot to safemode, i will see again this win7 f***en native interface(with no changes of 7+TT)
    4. Patch files can be easily included to windows instalation disks and i will never see this terrible native interface of win7(win8).
    5. byt the way, it will be very nice if you can and new options to the program:
    – make the system tray shrinked – i mean by deleting huge gaps between icons (horyzontally and vertically), in the clock part – there nesr 4mm extra gaps before clock part and after, make “minimaze all windows” button thinner
-return old options to tools panels – to separate it from task bar and move to what ever place of the screen i want(as it was in XP)

    • RaMMicHaeL says:

      1. I don’t like extra process in the RAM and taskmanager.

It’s very lightweight, RAM shouldn’t be an issue.

      2. It runs via autorun, i would prefer “service”.

I see no reason for it to be running as a service. A service must be run as administrator, the tweaker doesn’t.

      3. If i boot to safemode, i will see again this win7 f***en native interface(with no changes of 7+TT)

I don’t know about you, but I (and everybody else I know) use the safemode as often as once a year, at most.

      4. Patch files can be easily included to windows instalation disks and i will never see this terrible native interface of win7(win8).

I believe that the tweaker can be included, too. On the other hand, if Microsoft will introduce an update to explorer.exe, your modifications will be gone for good.

      – make the system tray shrinked

      See the help file:
      Advanced options -> OptionsEx -> tray_icons_padding.

-return old options to tools panels – to separate it from task bar and move to what ever place of the screen i want(as it was in XP)

Not likely to be implemented. I don’t believe it’s worth the effort.

      • Oleg says:

        1) I configured the program, and i what that configuration to be saved independantly from the system.
I think there is no such option.
I mean if i login another user, or run this program on anothe machine or vortual system, the options will be default. Can you make it to save options to some ini file in program folder.
        2) I get now the lates update. Yes, you made the gaps bitween trayicons less in width. Can you make the same for height?
Even more, I mean, i want all task bar to be less in height. I use it in two lines mode, and there are huge gaps between lines of tray icons, icons of tools panel, taskbar buttons.
        3) As i told, i use taskbar in two lines. So i have timearea displaying all – time(hh:mm:ss), day of week, data(dd.mm.yyyy). This option (tray_clock_fix_width) does nothing for me – i didn’t see any changes.
There are still huge gaps(15pxs) right and left from the longest word(day of week)

  7. Ellen says:

I’m searching for something that can increase the size of system tray icons, something that is not available in Windows 7. Does your utility make this possible, and, if it doesn’t, could you please add it?

  8. Michael says:

hey! my bitdefender internet security detected spyware!!!! can you upload a new one please????

  9. Jacker says:

does it work on Windows Vista???
because my new computer broke and i bought my used computer at Pawn Shop

  10. Sora Hjort says:

Was wondering if it’s possible to request a feature, if it is even possible.

    Request: Disable Scrollbar.

I use a vertical taskbar, and in all previous versions prior to 7, when you had too many windows open, it would create a second column to fit all the tasks on the bar. Now, or at least on 7 (haven’t had a chance to touch 8), instead of the second column, it just puts a scroll bar instead. I would idealy like to have that old functionality back.

  11. arnoud says:

When I try to download I get a 403 forbidden error. How can I overcome this?

  12. Andy says:

can you upload version 4.3? I updated to 4.4.3 and now it can’t inject dll (I’m using windows 8.1)

  13. Bojan Sala says:

Thanks for this awesome app, the “open last window” feature is absolutely fantastic, saved me massive amount of clicks.

  14. Yerlan says:

Would it be possible to add a advanced decombine setting so that once you hover a item that i can add a “delay” where it will combine back again?

I find the current behaviour a bit awkward, when i hover over a item it will de-combine as expected, but when i accidently go slightly outside the Taskbar it will already combine, while i would rather have that it waits a bit before it combines back, giving it a smoother/more expected result especially because if you use the hover option it will work a bit awkward when when you use Thumbnails as well, as there is a slight space between Item and Thumbnail so it will combine and decombine very fast.

Also a related bug, If you enable “drag to reorder” under Thumbnail and use the Active Group decombine feature, the moment you drag, it will decombine, and stay decombined even though the group is still active.

I hope you understand what i mean 🙂

    • Yerlan says:

Ah and OS is Windows 8.1 x64

    • RaMMicHaeL says:

Also a related bug, If you enable “drag to reorder” under Thumbnail and use the Active Group decombine feature, the moment you drag, it will decombine, and stay decombined even though the group is still active.

I could reproduce it, and it seems like this is a bug of Explorer, not the tweaker.
The tweaker uses Explorer’s ‘hot item’ state to decide whether to decombine a group. When you start dragging the thumbnails, they receive focus. When the thumbnails close, Explorer moves the focus to the group, thus marking it as a ‘hot item’. The tweaker considers this as a mouse hover event, and keeps the group decombined.
You can even reproduce this without the tweaker running. Drag any thumbnail anywhere. Then move your mouse outside the thumbnails and wait for them to auto close. You can see that the button group receives focus by it’s color.

Would it be possible to add a advanced decombine setting so that once you hover a item that i can add a “delay” where it will combine back again?

It’s not trivial, but I believe it would be possible.
You might want to create a suggestion about it on the UserEcho page:
      http://tweaker.userecho.com/

  15. Turion says:

Thanks for the 4.4.4 update 🙂
Just one very minor thing I noticed is that the date highlighting doesn’t go away when the mouse is off it as shown in this animation: https://db.tt/VXaVeRIB

  16. Alarian says:

I use three monitors and Taskbar only seems to work on my primary monitor when it comes to “Hovering”. I have it set to do nothing, and it works fine on my primary monitor, but on the other two monitors it shows the thumbnail preview (default).

    • RaMMicHaeL says:

      Works for me.
Are you using the native taskbar on your secondary monitors (Windows 8/8.1), or are you using an additional program (UltraMon, DisplayFusion, etc.)?

      • Alarian says:

I’m running windows 7 and I do use Display Fusion. Could that be the problem?

        • RaMMicHaeL says:

Yes, that’s it. 7+ Taskbar Tweaker only works with taskbars of Windows. Display Fusion uses it’s own implementation of the taskbar on secondary monitors.
Maybe Display Fusion provides similar option for their taskbars. If not, I’m afraid I can’t help here.

    Hi,

I cant install the latest update (4.4.4). Never had a problem installing updates before.

    • RaMMicHaeL says:

      Hi,

Did the error happen only once, or did you try multiple times?
If it’s the former, perhaps the download failed, and the file was only partially downloaded. Try again.
If it’s the latter, it needs further investigation.

      • anonymouse says:

Ive tried several times now even after restarting but same message. Strange.

        • RaMMicHaeL says:

Did you try downloading the file using your browser? Does that work?
In general, the best I can do is provide you with a debug build, which will show more information about the reason it fails. Are you interested?

          • anonymouse says:

Downloading it from the site worked, thanks very much. No idea what the issue was, never had a problem with updates before (and there have been many!).

Thank you for creating these apps, the quick responses and willingness to assist – I appreciate it very much.

  18. Ahikanana says:

I installed 7+TT on my Win 7 Home Premium x32 laptop b/c I wanted something that would allow me to freely arrange taskbar items like Taskbar Shuffle, which I have used for years. Rearranging tabs using 7+TT is easy & smooth. At first I thought it has too many features from looking at the screenshot at the top of this page, but having used it I find most of the features a necessity to tone down a very convoluted Win 7, morphing it into something more user friendly like Vista (YES, I like Vista). Win 7’s GUI is designed to work better with tablets, but if you don’t have a tablet, 7+TT’s “extras” is perfect for the job. Thanks!

  19. Jonny says:

Hi, and thanks again for this awesome tool.

I use the grouping to group similar apps (all my tweakers in one group), is there a way to persist with this info, so if certain apps are opened, they group with other ‘like’ running apps ?

    Thanks!

  20. radi0n says:

    Great piece of software!
I have new idea for new feature:

Shift/ctrl double click (middle click) on on taskbar empty space!

    Keep up the good work!

    Greetings!

  21. marc says:

    Works good, thanks 🙂

  22. pseudonico says:

    Great software!
There is a way to use it by command line?

    Thanks!

  23. Mustafa Can says:

Can I ask for a feature request?

Just switched from Windows 7 to Windows Server 2012 R2. But having a problem with taskbar.

On Windows 7, with new taskbar came up but it has a bug, You can’t make it thinner on side like it’s on the bottom. We find a workaround which requires restarting DWM.

On Windows 8 there are no DWM so we can’t make thin taskbar. So, please add an option to do this on 7+ Taskbar Tweaker.

    More info on here: http://www.reddit.com/r/windows/comments/1l49wl/

  24. Christophe says:

    Hello there,

    May I request a feature ?

It would be a new option for “Hovering” (the taskbar items).
    For now we have :
    – Show thumbnail preview (default)
    – List
    – Tooltip
    – Nothing

I was thinking about an option “Show Aero Peek”, which would mimic a mouse hover on the thumbnail preview.

I highly hope it doesn’t require much engineering, so it would make it in a future release !

Thank you very much for your work, I’ve been enjoying 7tt since day one 🙂

    Christophe

    Привет!
Яндекс.Диск при загрузке ос выбивает, подозрение на твикер. В принципе не критично, но если проблема простая, почему б ее и не решить 😉

  28. Evgeniy says:

    • DartKane says:

Скорее совпадение. У мя норм всё с ЯДиском.
Проверься на вирусняк. Либо, у тебя ищё что-то стоит, что конфликтует с твиком.

    • RaMMicHaeL says:

Твикер не должен влиять на другие программы, только на проводника.
      Если получится воспроизвести, дайте знать.

Hi, just wanted to thank you for this amazing piece of software! I’m using it on Windows 7 and 8 ! I’m gonna donate as soon as i have time! ù
Are you russian? apart from the human rights denied in your country, you are an excellent developer imho.

  30. Chuck says:

Thanks so much for providing this software! I was just looking for a Taskbar Shuffle replacement for Windows 7 and this does way more! I especially like the ability to temporarily degroup items.

    Thanks again!

  31. Evgeniy says:

    Скорее всего главный вирус – Яндекс.Диск ))

Ненадо! Хорошая штука! Мы на работе активно юзаем его!

      • Evgeniy says:

Thank you so much for creating this! I’m very glad I found it; it’s very useful.

  34. JiMCAILLOU says:

Just wanted to remove this -very ?- large gap between icons on taskbar, and have been looking for a while into google, finding several interesting tweaks, so took me hours…
Then I just found your wonderfum software, it did exactly what I wanted in a sigle click, and much more, the mouse wheel to navigate between opened windows is a MUST HAVE, also for the opprotunity to assign double click to for ex. auto hide.

I wanted a basic fonctionnality that your software only offered me after long search, and I found lot of improvements !!!!! large thanks to you, I love it.

  35. mikkosika says:

    Thanks!!!
This is awesome! I hate when some apps (vmware) not group and explorer windows group (with vertical taskbar)

with this great app i set that vmware & firefox always group, explorer never > broblem GONE !

  36. C says:

Feature request: You should add an option to display a second taskbar on a dual monitor setup.

  37. Mathias says:

    I installed V4.4.5 and have a problem (I use Windows7 64bit):
after starting 7tt the Icon appears on the right corner (that is ok) but when I am moving to that icon by mouseover the icon disapears…. 🙁 so I cannot open the settings…. 🙁 🙁

  38. John says:

Was looking for a way to drag the taskbar thumbnails. This app does the trick so well!

Was wondering if you are able to add an option to center the taskbar items? Not a big deal if you can’t.

  39. SingleE says:

    Hi,

I think “Display seconds on the tray clock” is very useful.
I also want to display date on the same place.
Preferably, I am glad to be able to display in a variety of formats (ex. 2014/02/08 土 11:04:29 (in Japanese)).

    Thanks.

Hello, after updating Windows 8.1 to leaked final version of GDR Update 1, 7+ Taskbar Tweaker can’t load it’s library.

  41. Shelter says:

more options for win8/8.1 would be awsome, especialy for “Multi-Taskbar”.
also an option to “close all” in ungrouped state would be great ^^

  42. km says:

Trying 7+TT now on Windows 7: Is there a setting to prevent the taskbar from being always-on-top? That is, so other windows will move over top of the taskbar instead of sliding under it, the way it used to work in Windows 98 and XP. The taskbar always being on top of everthing else is annoying, and Auto-hide is even more annoying. Thanks.

  43. Stamimail says:

    Hi,
    Regarding Windows Media Player
I know about the Taskbar Toolbar
    http://www.askvg.com/update-how-to-get-wmp-12-taskbar-toolbar-taskband-back-in-windows-7

I’m looking for a solution how to get the Seek Bar in the “Live Preview Thumbnail”.

Do you know if someone already worked on this?
    Is it even possible?

  44. Crs says:

    Usefull App.Keep it updated. Thanks

  45. Adam says:

Hey man I have used this for a couple of years now. I’ve never said thanks, so thanks.

    • RaMMicHaeL says:

      Здравствуйте, Виктор!

      Для этого есть расширенный параметр:
      * Нажмите правой кнопкой мыши на иконку твикера в области уведомлений.
      * Откройте “Расширенные параметры”.
      * Замените параметр drag_towards_desktop на 1.

  47. Michael says:

Please add the feature to disable the progress bar buttons (green bar) in the taskbar when there is such a download.

    Thank you very much!

  48. Troy K says:

Hi, I would like to see it have the option to always be on top, even of fullscreen applications. I would like to see it while connected to Remote Desktop multiple monitor style. And one monitor is flipped, so split screening does not help. I may be one of the few that find it helpful, but giving it a try.

    Thank you, Troy

  49. Jimothy says:

Thanks dude, please add an option to maximize/restore-down a window by middle clicking its taskbar button, it’s the only thing I miss about Taskix. A small gripe – it’d be nice if I could choose to cycle the buttons from left to right by scrolling up instead of down.

    • RaMMicHaeL says:

cycle the buttons from left to right by scrolling up instead of down.

That’s possible with the “scroll_reverse_cycle” advanced option. Refer to the help file for more details.
