Is this a RAR password unlocker? Or something else?

    • RaMMicHaeL says:

      Something else.
      From the WinRAR help:

      Locking archives

RAR archive format supports archive locking. The locked archive cannot be modified by WinRAR. You may lock important archives to prevent their accidental modification.

Use “Lock archive” command in WinRAR shell mode or command “K” in the command line to lock an archive.

  2. Nime says:

I think it converts read-only rar archives to read-write mode.

    Check them with VIRUS TOTAL.

    Thanks

    Thanks!!

  6. Pasha ZZZ says:

Can you add unattended mode? Automatic unlock w/o showing GUI. Now I can pass archive name as a parameter, but press Unlock & close program required.

  7. VictorVG says:

This tools not supported RAR5 format. I test this tools for unlock RAR5 archive, test is failure – tool’s can’t recognize RAR5 header if supported only old RAR 2.90 format.

  8. NetMeister says:

just an fyi, I started using Kaspersky a few months ago. I’ve not got a single false positive on them yet, and they don’t ‘block and/or delete’ the file. ( unless you set it to.)

So far I’m thrilled as one of it’s best feature is the proactive system resource attention. They don’t drag my system down like every other one I’ve used.

  11. Oleg says:

    Hello.

Very good tool, but please update it to support WinRAR 5.x archivers.

    Best regards, Oleg.

  12. Abhishek says:

    Hi RaMMicHaeL,

this was an excellent tool for WinRAR 4.x and I truly admire your genius for it. It seems you still have not released a version for WinRAR 5.x yet, and we are eagerly waiting for it.

I am not sure if this helps, but on a very brief testing on a temp file I created, this kind of worked:

    Searched for hex value:
    B5 30 73 04
    Replaced with hex value:
    CF 90 73 00

but then I am not an expert on Olly or Hex manipulations so I couldn’t test this extensively and I could not workout the correct codes.

If you could please rework on this product for WinRAR 5.x, it will be extremely helpful for all of us here.

Most eagerly anticipating your new release.

    Cheers.

    • RaMMicHaeL says:

      Hi Abhishek,

There’s no need for Olly or for reverse engineering here, the format specification is public:
      http://www.rarlab.com/technote.htm#mainhead

The RAR5 format is a little bit more complicated than the RAR4 format, as it uses variable sized integers, so I cannot port RAR Unlocker with a 5-minute change. Also, the flags are different, so the GUI needs to be reworked.

I might have RAR Unlocker updated for RAR5 one day, but it’s not a priority at this time. If you are into programming, I can publish the source code for you to port it, but note that it’s quite poorly written (the tool was written in 2006!).

    • RaMMicHaeL says:

      Hi again,

I have just published a new version, which supports RAR 5.0.

  13. Abhishek says:

    WOW ..
thank you sooo much … it feels wonderful to see an update of this program ..

    truly appreciate your work..

  14. Mike says:

    Hi,

I’m not on Windows, but have to deal with locked rar archives occasionally. Would you willing to release the source code? Seems much more efficient to unlock vs de-archive and re-archive.

    Thanks

    • RaMMicHaeL says:

      Hi Mike,

Done, I’ve added a link in the post above. Note that I’m using WTL and Windows API functions for file mapping, you’ll have to change these. It would be nice if you’ll publish the modified code.

  15. Mike says:

Thank you! Not sure how long it’ll take me, but I’ve cloned the rep and will share anything I come up with.

Does RAR-Unlocker support multiple files to unlock at the same time?
I find it uncomfortable to be able to unlock one file at once only.

Also, I would be interested to be able to run RAR-Unlocker against a complete directory to check for all .rar files inside, if they have any of the attributes activated. So output a list only (no unlocking) to view the attributes. Output could be a txt or csv file?

    greetings

Does RAR-Unlocker support multiple files to unlock at the same time?

No, it doesn’t. You can use it from the command line, and write a script to go over multiple files, if that works for you.

RAR Unlocker is open source, so pull requests are welcome 🙂
