7+ Taskbar Tweaker and Windows 10

Windows 10 Technical Preview was just released by Microsoft several days ago, and I’ve already received many questions about 7+ Taskbar Tweaker support for it. I’d like to answer some of those.

Q: I tried to run 7+ Taskbar Tweaker on Windows 10 Preview and I get a messagebox that says it’s only for win7/8. Do you reckon it would work if you disable the windows check inside 7+ TT?

A: No, that won’t work. What you’ll get instead is a different error message box, or, if you’re less lucky, an explorer crash.

Q: If 7+ Taskbar Tweaker works fine on Win 8.1, I guess it’s a small adjustment to make it work in Win 10, isn’t it?

A: That’s kind of correct, depending on what you’re considering as a “small adjustment”. But that’s not something that can be done in a couple of minutes. Or hours. While that’s obviously less work than writing 7+ Taskbar Tweaker from scratch, it requires careful tuning for the memory layout of the new explorer, and the fact that it looks/behaves just like explorer from Windows 8.1 doesn’t help here.

Q: Can donations, as in the case Windows 8.1, accelerate the situation?

A: Yes, it will help. You can donate here.
Include the w10p (Windows 10 Porting) word in the donation comments to specify that your donation is targeted for the porting.

Below is a progress bar of the donations, with the goal set as the estimated time the porting is going to take, with an average wage.

$1173 out of $1000

As with the Windows 8.1 Update 1 porting progress, all donors will get access to early alpha versions during the porting process.
Also, the top three donors will get mentioned in the changelog.

Thanks in advance for your help! If things go well, I’ll try to allocate time for it next week.

Update (October 24, 2014): The first alpha version is available! More details here.

Update (August 7, 2015): The first public beta version is available! More details here.

Hi, I’ve started using 7+ Taskbar Tweaker for Windows 10 and I have come across an issue when the application starts.

I need to run the “Classic Shell” application to lock out more of the windows 10 desktop and as I result, when the machine logs on, the registry run command starts but I don’t think the classic start menu has kicked in and so the 7+ Taskbar Tweaker comes up with the error. “Taskbar Wasn’t Found”.

I tried to start the 7+ Taskbar Tweaker from a batch job instead but it doesn’t seem to load like it does if launched from the registry.

Is there a way I can call it successfully from the “StartUp” folder and get it to stay running in the background?

    Thanks
    JASON 🙂

Hi, thanks for your amazingly rapid reply. If I launch this command from a batch file once it runs the “7+ Taskbar Tweaker”, the DOS windows stays visible and it looks like it’s waiting for something to come back from the “7+ Taskbar Tweaker” application.

The Batch File has the following content…

    “7+ Taskbar Tweaker\7+ Taskbar Tweaker.exe” – hidewnd
    Exit

But when it runs, the “7+ Taskbar Tweaker” is launched in the background as I can see its Task in the tasklist and it works perfectly, but it just leaves a DOS window that looks like it’s waiting from something before it moves onto the exit command in my batch job.

Sorry to be a pain, any ideas????

    Many thanks in advance,

    Regards
    JASON

That worked perfectly first time. Thank you very much for all your help and quick responses.

I’ll be paying a donation as soon as.

I have been able to remove the right click option and just show the standard window now, which is great.

Is there a way to remove the ability to disable the “Shift Right mouse click” and stop my users from being able to open another instance of the taskbar application from the context menu?

I have an app that launches an Internet explorer window in a locked out mode but when they “Shift Right Click” the taskbar item then they can then launch a fully opened browser session from the context menu that pops up.

    Thanks again.

    Hi,

I’m trying to disable CTRL+LEFT WINDOWS KEY+D to stop virtual desktops from being created but can’t figure out the shortcut name.

I’ve tried 0x44|ctrl+win but that doesn’t do it.

    Any ideas please? 🙂

Every time 7+ Taskbar Tweaker loads at startup I get a “7+ Taskbar Tweaker: Could not load library (104)”. I have also tried starting it by clicking on it in the Start menu however, I get the same result.

How can I fix this? Or is there a work-around I can use? I am using Windows 10 w/Anniversary Update. I really miss the features that 7+ Taskbar Tweaker used to give me!

I tried 5.2.1 and am now using 5.2.1.1. Nothing changed.

  9. John Gorman says:

Yes, I am using an insider build. I wish I could get rid of it and go back to the non-beta build but I don’t know how.

    The build numbers are 14946.rs_prerelease.161007-1700

Is there any kind of work around like moving the file to a place Windows looks at by default, or pre-loading the file in memory???

    Thanks for you help.

OK, so I will HAVE to get back to the Anniversary build because 7+ Taskbar Tweaker is much more valuable to me than anything I get from the insider builds!

    Awesome utility!

I have a question: when checking for a possible update, I stumbled upon an image of Taskbar Inspector which not only showed the taskbar items but also the window handles (http://rammichael.com/7-taskbar-tweaker-update-v1-5). Now, it really would be great to have those handles available, but sadly I can’t find them anywhere (I’m currently using version 4.4.6). Am I misinterpreting the image or…. ??
Thanks very much for your reply!

As fast as I can get my salary, I will transfer some donation for you personally since I’m really grateful for your work. Anyways, can you really switch the underline around the taskbar icons using the old school border/frame?

    • can you really switch the underline around the taskbar icons using the old school border/frame?

Not with the tweaker. Perhaps it can be done by using a different theme, but I don’t really know.

And thanks for the upcoming donation, I appreciate it 🙂

Hi. I was wondering if you have any updates yet on the tray_icons_padding and list_reverse_order options for Windows 10?

  15. Marcelo says:

Hi there, a new version of Windows 10 is out (Creators Update), and of course, it broke 7 tweakbar.
Are you going to start a fundraising for this version?

  16. Barry B. Benson says:

I’m not using an Insider build, and I’m using the latest version of 7+ Taskbar Tweaker, but I still get “7+ Taskbar Tweaker: Could not load library (104).”

  17. nick says:

I’ve been using 7+ Taskbar Tweaker for quite a while and have just updated to the Windows 10 Creator version, which has broken 7+ Taskbar Tweaker. Same thing happened with the Anniversary update and a fix was released, when can we expect the same for this one?

  18. Sharon Holland says:

Hello, I downloaded this program to a HP Pavillion Notebook with Windows 10. The program opens, I adjust all the settings, but there is no option I see to make them apply, and nothing takes effect. I can close the window and still nothing happens.
I did get an error message after installation, something about not being able to download, read, install? library. But then it seemed to open fine. It just doesn’t apply anything. Windows 10 was forced on me, I hate it, and so far I have updates disabled, until I know more about what else they will screw up, so no updates have been installed. Hope someone here can tell me how to make this work. Thanks!

    Hello Michael,
I’d like to submit a feature request here:

When using small icons on taskbar, the option to increase the icon size to 32 pixels and the option to show the date also.

    Keep up your Fantastic work!

I have been very happy with this tool….. Until Office 2013 and Win 10

Before Microsoft broke MS office and stopped windows in taskbar, I never had an issue. I could set things up and use both windows and office productively.
Then 2013 came along and it’s all gone wrong…. I will never install that rubbish at home, but ast work I have to suffer it everyday

Using Taskbar Tweaker I can fix the main programmes so Excel word and PowerPoint have one instance in the taskbar and control opening with cntr + tab successfully
However because Outlook is a mess of different types of windows and confusion rolled up, I don’t want this programme to scroll round (in fact it doesn’t anyway) but it is all bundled into a single instance I don’t want. I ‘d rather each bit sat on its own in the taskbar which is how it works (if you want) with ALL versions of office before 2016
I have suffered trying different option but none work anyway near as successfully as it did.

Is there anything you can do to allow Word, PowerPoint and Excel to work one way and Outlook to do something else?

It works no more with Win 10 RS4 1803
