7+ Taskbar Tweaker for Windows 7 and Windows 8

7+ Taskbar Tweaker (previously known as 7 Taskbar Tweaker) now officially supports Windows 8!
In addition to the new name and the Windows 8 support, several small bugs were fixed, and general stability was improved, so it’s a recommended update even for Windows 7.

    In Windows 7 option
Middle click on empty space => Ctrl+Alt+Tab
    works as Ctrl+Win+Tab.
I think, there should be options for both hotkeys. 🙂

I did update to version 4.
It did not keep the settings. :-(.
I have to do all over again.

BTW, please put V4.0 in caption.

    Taskbar Inspector:
I don’t really remember, but I think that in the previous version I could place the Taskbar Inspector in 1 corner (Example: top left) , and after, it was remember the location of the Taskbar Inspector where I had placed it.

I think it makes sense to have for alt+ctrl+tab the original
function in both w7 and w8. In w7 you have already a mouse
controlled call of win+ctrl+tab in QLB or in the superbar itself. So why to call this by the alt+ctrl+tab option, why not add an option win+ctrl+tab which
calls the respective functions in w7 and w8? In w8 there is no more an clickable item for this shortcut.

  5. Vince says:

    thank you for version 4!!

even if you never added the scrolling from mute option to the taskbar :(. (not even as an option, so we could do it and the man with a sleeping child can have his default option anyway……)

Thank you for bringing us to windows 8 with you!

I’ll be upgrading to it in September.

    Hey!

Was wondering if anyone else was getting Explorer crashes with this new version, I keep getting spammed with the following ever since upgrading to the Win8 compatible version 🙁

Faulting application name: Explorer.EXE, version: 6.1.7601.17758, time stamp: 0x4f0bbd2f
Faulting module name: SHELL32.dll, version: 6.1.7601.17859, time stamp: 0x4fd2dfec
    Exception code: 0xc0000005
    Fault offset: 0x000000000009a719
    Faulting process id: 0xfd4
    Faulting application start time: 0x01cd797c8cbe014b
    Faulting application path: C:\Windows\Explorer.EXE
    Faulting module path: C:\Windows\system32\SHELL32.dll

    • Hi,

Are you using a 32 or 64-bit Windows?
Also, do you have a way to reproduce the crash?

      http://vrublevsky.org/z/2012-08-16-10-23-18.png

Faulting application name: Explorer.EXE, version: 6.1.7601.17567, time stamp: 0x4d6727a7
Faulting module name: SHELL32.dll, version: 6.1.7601.17859, time stamp: 0x4fd2d1d9
        Exception code: 0xc0000005

        Faulting process id: 0xa90
        Faulting application start time: 0x01cd7b7d3a7f5fd4
        Faulting application path: C:\Windows\Explorer.EXE
        Faulting module path: C:\Windows\system32\SHELL32.dll
        Report Id: 896808b2-e770-11e1-93c7-001377e7613e

        2. explorer упал: запусти Task Manager (Ctrl+Shift+ESC), File -> New Task -> Browse…, выбери procdump.exe, допиши в конце “explorer” (например “C:\ProcDump\procdump.exe” explorer). Нажми на OK.

      • VEG says:

Пока висит окошко с инфой об ошибке Explorer (я включил «Each time a problem occurs, ask me before checking for solutions») не работает мышь и Alt+Tab, но в текущем окне управление клавой работает.

      • VEG says:

          • VEG says:

Функция «When not grouping, place new items next to the existing ones» теперь работает некорректно.
            http://vrublevsky.org/z/2012-08-18-11-34-54.jpg

          • VEG says:

          • VEG says:

    • I’ve managed to reproduce it. The buggy option is “When not grouping, place new items next to the existing ones”.
I’ll fix it in next version, meanwhile you’d better turn this option off.

Hi, when I use the option “Control Volume when the mouse is” I checked the option The Task Bar or The notificaction area… It makes no funtion, the last version of 7tt works very well that option… Greettings

    Ordering Problems:
Recently the ordering of the thumbnails preview accordings to taskbar items – was fixed.
I don’t know why but Internt Explorer app behaves different. the order is not kept.
    So:
    1. Please fix the ordering of IE app.
    2. Please enable reorder thumbnails preview by Right mouse button (like we can in Taskbar Items)
    Thank You.

after reinstalling windows I usually installed firefox first. this time I reinstalled, the first thing to install was taskbar tweaker – nothing more to say -I love this tool 🙂

One thing I’m still missing: adding a second “show desktop” button on the left hand side of the desktop. I’m using a workaround with the shellCommand attached to the taskbar but a “non accidentally moveable” button would be nicer. And yes i know about the doubleklick feature to toggle desktop, but a button would be nicer, also you don’t have empty room on the left to double click…

Now that is a bloody good idea…

      @RaMMicHaeL

The way you could do this, is to move the “Show desktop” button from the right edge of the taskbar back to where it was in the past, next to the start button, so that it would be between the start button and pinned apps, you could also make it wider and have it display the desktop icon (I think it’s in the Explorer.exe, or perhaps in shell32.dll) so that it would fit in its new position better – this would be amazing, IMO.

      Just a thought. 😉

      • It’s possible to pin a “Show desktop” button using, e.g., my winapiexec.
        Here’s how it looks:
        http://i.imgur.com/B5rh2.png

Are you interested in the details?

        • Arcyon says:

So, you have already solved this problem, two years ago! 🙂

I have looked at how it works but unfortunately I do not know how to make it invoke the show desktop command so I’m quite interested in further details.

Also, I’ve been thinking about a possible new feature for 7TT – an option to fixate taskbar buttons in place, so that they can no longer be dragged left or right and stay in place even if you try to move them.

That way your buttons are guaranteed to stay in place even if you’re not very proficient with the mouse, specifically, this would protect the “Show desktop” button from being inadvertently dragged from the start of the taskbar (where it belongs) by less mouse savvy users.

          • * Download winapiexec and put it somewhere.
            * Create a shortcut of winapiexec.exe with the following command line arguments:
            u@SendMessageW ( u@FindWindowW Shell_TrayWnd 0 ) 0x111 407 0
            * Open File Properties of the shortcut, and change the icon to the Show Desktop icon (from SHELL32.dll).
            * Pin the shortcut to the taskbar.
            * Done, you can remove the shortcut.

          • I forgot to add that you might want to set “Group pinned items: Never” in Taskbar Inspector for the generated Application ID, in order to suppress the animation of the created taskbar button when you click on it.

  13. SaHiB says:

i would like to prefer the 2 buttons solution, instead of the ability of moving it.
Because I#m using a wacom tablet it’s faster to use the left or the right “show desktop” depending on there your hand is.

im already using the solution with a selfmade pinned icon, pointing to a desktop.scf file, witch includes

    [Shell]
    Command=2
    IconFile=shell32.dll,34
    [Taskbar]
    Command=ToggleDesktop

but th real button would be cooler 🙂

  14. Willem says:

Sometimes it does not start with Windows.
    I use Windows 8 Release preview 64bit.

    • What do you mean by sometimes?
Also, is the “Run at startup” option checked in the Settings dialog?

      • Willem says:

Yes that is checked. But I have tried it on another PC with the same Windows 8 and there it works great. So I think I have to reïnstall Windows on my PC…………………

        • Willem says:

But…….. after reïnstalling the problem is still there. I try to explain:

If you start Win8 and you stay in the Metro interface for a while, and then you go to the desktop 7+ TT is not started. When you click an icon in the taskbar 7+ TT starts.

If you go directly from Metro to the desktop 7+ TT starts immediatly.

This happens on my wife’s 32bit Win8 PC but also on my 64bit Win8 PC.

  15. Arcyon says:

Ha, I just tried and made the Show Desktop button with Winapiexec and I have to say it’s quite amazing, your tiny utility has great potential IMO, assuming one knows the right “magic incantation” of course; anyhow, it seems to me that Winapiexec has just joined 7TT in the group of must have Windows utilities.

Hi on my main rig I run v2 built in april 2011, work perfect.

On a new test VM I installed the latest version which has + at the end, the option to disable grouping now doesnt work, to make sure I grabbed the exe of my main rig and copied it to the VM and when I tested the option it worked again.

The working version is v2.0 compiled april 18 2011
The broken version is 4.0.10 compiled oct 17 2012

not tried any in between so no idea when it may have broken.

I would love to see an option to allow even smaller vertical taskbar widths than the current minimum taskbar width which is about 82 pixels. It’s a real pain if you’re using small icons and a waste of space. With CheatEngine, I already got a 32 pixel width working absolutely correctly (everything below makes the icons look cluttered), but it’s not stored in the registry or reset when Windows is starting again.
