7+ Taskbar Tweaker and Windows 10

Windows 10 Technical Preview was just released by Microsoft several days ago, and I’ve already received many questions about 7+ Taskbar Tweaker support for it. I’d like to answer some of those.

Q: I tried to run 7+ Taskbar Tweaker on Windows 10 Preview and I get a messagebox that says it’s only for win7/8. Do you reckon it would work if you disable the windows check inside 7+ TT?

A: No, that won’t work. What you’ll get instead is a different error message box, or, if you’re less lucky, an explorer crash.

Q: If 7+ Taskbar Tweaker works fine on Win 8.1, I guess it’s a small adjustment to make it work in Win 10, isn’t it?

A: That’s kind of correct, depending on what you’re considering as a “small adjustment”. But that’s not something that can be done in a couple of minutes. Or hours. While that’s obviously less work than writing 7+ Taskbar Tweaker from scratch, it requires careful tuning for the memory layout of the new explorer, and the fact that it looks/behaves just like explorer from Windows 8.1 doesn’t help here.

Q: Can donations, as in the case Windows 8.1, accelerate the situation?

A: Yes, it will help. You can donate here.
Include the w10p (Windows 10 Porting) word in the donation comments to specify that your donation is targeted for the porting.

Below is a progress bar of the donations, with the goal set as the estimated time the porting is going to take, with an average wage.

$1173 out of $1000

As with the Windows 8.1 Update 1 porting progress, all donors will get access to early alpha versions during the porting process.
Also, the top three donors will get mentioned in the changelog.

Thanks in advance for your help! If things go well, I’ll try to allocate time for it next week.

Update (October 24, 2014): The first alpha version is available! More details here.

Update (August 7, 2015): The first public beta version is available! More details here.

I just tried 7tt_setup_alpha_v4.5.9.6 Alpha under Windows 10 Technical Preview Build 9926..

YEA! – My Taskbar Icons are FREE! (as in Ungrouped & NOT Connected) – 🙂 BJ

  4. Bernard says:

I’m on Build 10056 (naughty, I know) and am getting the “could not load library” error with “107” in the parentheses. This is probably not unexpected since this isn’t a released build, but just a heads up 🙂

    Great work!

  5. Stephen says:

Hey, I never got a link to the alpha download, after donating via PayPal four days ago. Could you please send it? Thank you!

  6. Shan949 says:

Windows 10 RTM is almost here.
When will be the 7+ taskbar tweaker be available for Windows 10?

    • I can’t say for sure. Currently, I have an alpha version which kinda works for some of the tweaks, but because there are major changes in Windows 10, some tweaks cannot be easily adjusted to the new version, and I can’t say how much time will it take to port them all.

  7. Adaz says:

    Hi,

For the Windows 10 version: is it possible to make the taskbar icons the same size as in Windows 7-8-8.1? In the latest builds MS reduced the icons’ size for some weird reason, and none of the “old” registry hacks worked for me 🙁

    Thanks!
    Adaz

  8. Br broken guy says:

please… consider launch a version for the Windows 10 final .. i am waiting your patch to release so i can update my windows =D .. ty very much ..

  9. venthe says:

I for one only want single function – thin vertical taksbar. It’s the feature worth paying for 🙂

  10. Adaz says:

Is it possible to replace the underline on the taskbar icons with the oldschool border/frame?

  11. SAMURAI says:

i want Windows 10 version 7+ taskbar tweaker Thank you so much

  12. Kim Iverson says:

Just received the upgrade, and just got this notice. I’m super happy to hear about your work to upgrade this app. I work in Word every single day and almost all day long. I LOVE that this product lets me switch windows around. Thank you for this. I can’t donate, but I just wanted to give you some appreciation for the work you are doing with this. Can’t wait until it’s released for the general public.

  13. george says:

10240 no_width_limit not working with vertical taskbar ;/

how much is done? how long will we wait

  17. AlexeyShashkov says:

For Win10 in alpha: when taskbar is at the bottom, labels can be hidden. However, if taskbar is at the left, then labels are shown again. Can this be fixed?

  18. Shan949 says:

Thank you so much for the public beta.
Vertical taskbar is even better in large icons. Finally windows 10 is usable.
The only feature that i would like is the ability to remove extra space between icons (large) in the vertical taskbar alignment.

  19. Black_Ps` says:

Thank you so much for the public beta.

  20. Phil D says:

Excellent work on the Win 10 beta, no problems just an irritant

It’s not obvious what programs are active – all I see is a fine white line ==>> http://s4.postimg.org/6kftpqzbx/Capture.jpg

    The 1st, 2nd, 4th, and 5th items are active.

Is there any way I can get back to the visual effect I had in Win7, where the whole icon block was highlighted.

    PhilD

  21. Matt says:

Broken in the latest insider build 10525.

    “Could not load library”

They don’t make this easy on you.

  22. xpclient says:

Yep sorry to bother you but both 7+TT and 7+TN broke on Windows 10 Build 10525. But I understand from a developer’s perspective, it must be annoying to fix it constantly. In fact it’s perfectly fine if you update 7+TT and 7+TN only for the Long Term Servicing Branch (LTSB) of Windows 10.

  23. Nardo says:

The beta is working great on Win 10 Pro…
I’m not sure why Microsoft doesn’t implement options in the OS to do the same thing…

One thing I miss from the win-7 version of Taskbar Tweaker is the option to display the second on the taskbar

  24. xpclient says:

Btw, a bug. When “W10_Large_Icons” is enabled, the touch keyboard icon on the Taskbar also increases in size but it looks weird/improperly scaled.

  25. james28909 says:

windows 10 build 10532 will constantly crash taskbar tweaker, I have also tried setting 7tt to run as admin to no avail. i could help some in fixing the issues if you would like. just shoot me an email

  26. Mmx says:

Many many thanks to the people who donated, coded and tested ! The program works perfectly under 8.1 !!!

  27. Connor says:

Works great for me. I’m running Windows 10 x64 Pro build 10240, clean install.

  28. Michael says:

    Hi
First thank you for all your work on this excellent programme.
Only small suggestion/request is that the volume control option on the task bar has a reverse option. ie on my laptop pad two fingers up lowers volume and down raises. Could the toggle make it up raises volume and down lowers?
    Thanks Michael

    • Hi Michael,
That can’t be easily done, as the volume control window belongs to a separate Windows program (sndvol.exe). In general, it should be consistent with the other scrolling operations on the system.
You might want to try the X-Mouse Button Control program, which is designed for these kinds of tasks. More details here.

Is it possible to make the start button in Windows 10 bigger like 8.1?

  30. dAKirby309 says:

It seems like ‘drag_toward_desktop advanced option no longer works as intended as of the Win10 TH2 release the other day. Also, I can no longer hide the Start button, it hides the multitasking button on one monitor’s taskbar and hides Cortana on my other monitor; the Start button is still visible. This and perhaps a few other issues seem to have sprung up…

  31. cloud8521 says:

it no longer works with the November update for Windows 10

because so much was changed with windows 10, this interfered and made the start menu crash. time to rework the tools

  32. James says:

Awwww it seems to be broken now. I’m using the latest Win 10 and the beta of 7+, and when 7+ starts up, it seems to be trying to reboot explorer.exe constantly The mouse slows to a crawl, and I have to Task Manager out and kill 7+
I use 7+ for two main reasons — Extra space removal and volume control in the task bar.
Would love to use this again.

  33. Thomas Martin says:

It looks like it still works fine as long as you don’t try to kill the Start icon.

  34. will says:

hello, up until tonight I was using taskbar tweaker beta version for win 10. a forced upgrade ms window 10 to 1511 made taskbar tweaker inoperable. I believe the issue was it couldnt load some library. will there be a newer version of taskbar tweaker coming out soon? I have been using it since my early win 7 days and frankly I cant do without it. thank you

  35. will says:

    hello

thank you for your reply. I am having problem locating beta version 5.0.0.4 as the dl files are not labeled. the choice I see are 7tt_setup_beta.exe and even the one I have is also labeled that way. would it be possible for you to send me a direct link for build 5.0.0.4? maybe I’m not looking in the right place and in that case can you direct me to the proper page.

    thanks again

    will

  36. Mark B in Vermont says:

I have just installed the beta version of 7+ Taskbar Tweaker, and after I set disable_topmost to 1, my start menu no longer works.

I am using the latest update to Windows 10 1511.

There is a thread in the UltraMon forums claims that using the above tweak makes it possible to use a Stand-Alone TrueLaunchBar so you can add a Toolbar to the Taskbar on a secondary monitor: https://www.realtimesoft.com/multimon/forum/messages.asp?tmpl=UltraMon&Topic=24493#71560

  37. Tom Martin says:

Thanks. 5.1 works better – the taskbar remains visible when you hide the Start button but I couldn’t figure out how to reach the Start Menu. Previously a small blank area remained on the left side where you could click but this is now gone.

An odd side-effect is that the current task gets shifted over to the right side of the taskbar (sometimes the far right, sometimes not so far).

    • Previously a small blank area remained on the left side where you could click but this is now gone.

Yes, that’s how hiding the start button is implemented for Windows 10. You can add a space with the no_start_btn_spacing advanced option, but clicking on it won’t bring up the start menu. Perhaps I’ll implement that in the future.

An odd side-effect is that the current task gets shifted over to the right side of the taskbar (sometimes the far right, sometimes not so far).

What do you mean? Can you provide a screenshot or a video?

  38. Tom Martin says:

    And 5.0.0.4 behaves the same.

  39. Thomas Martin says:

OK, so just use the shortcut – that works great.

As for the odd behavior, it’s not really a problem and I can’t reproduce it now but the taskbar button for the window that was active immediately before running Tweaker was shifted to the right (as if someone had dragged and dropped it). This happened twice in a row after initially installing 5.1. Naturally I just dragged and dropped it back into place. I’ll try to reproduce it again later and see if I can detect a pattern. But don’t worry about it – it’s probably some Windows 10 flakiness.

  40. Tim says:

    Hi,

Windows 10 build 11099 was released to the fast ring. 7+ taskbar tweaker doesn’t seem to work properly. I got an error on starting up – Could not load library (1004).

  41. Jean Michael says:

    Hi There, this app stop working in Windows 10 build 11099 (latest insider build), can you fix it? i love this app, thx;

  42. aaa says:

Didn’t work in windows 10 insider preview 11099, says “7+ Taskbar Tweaker: Could not load library (5)”
    Can you fix it?

  43. Mehdroid says:

I am also on build 11099 (1511) Insider Preview fast ring and I receive the error message “7+ Taskbar Tweaker could not load library..”

If the error message refers to the inject.dll, could we just register both and see if that works?

  44. Adaz says:

    Hi,

v5.1 does not work on Windows 10 build 10.0.11102 🙁
    Could not load library.
It worked on all the previous builds.

    Thank you!

    Adaz

  45. Adaz says:

No answer at all. This was not usual before…

  46. 烁欣 says:

  47. Agnes Wurfel says:

Why can’t I open my email? There’s a comment about Norton Installation.
Why is it taking days? How do I get my email back?

  48. Dorobai says:
